Acoustic and seismic sensors provide the technology of choice for Unattended Ground Sensors. Among the desirable characteristics of these sensors are:

• Totally passive sensing.
• Exploitation of loud and distinctive target emissions.
• Availability of mature transducers, state of the art electronics and digital signal processors that allow low cost implementation.

The maturity of acoustic and seismic sensors has been recognized by the US Army and incorporated into two important weapon systems: the Wide Area Mine and the Brilliant Anti-Tank Munition, both finishing full scale development. Acoustic sensors have been used in previous generation systems like the US Army REMBAS and are being used in surveillance and target acquisition systems like the Remote Sentry and the Scout Vehicle. The existing technology base for acoustic and seismic sensors, much of it developed by the principals of SenTech, coupled with recent advances in digital signal processing, low power consumption processors and communications will make this technology even more attractive as we go into the Twenty First Century.
